# Claude Code plugin

> The `permahost` plugin connects Claude Code to the permahost.io MCP server and adds a `permahost` skill, so Claude can publish files and static sites at permanent public URLs when you ask it to.

HTML version: https://permahost.io/docs/plugins/claude/ · All docs: https://permahost.io/docs.md

## Install

In Claude Code, run:

Claude Code:

```
> /plugin install permahost --marketplace tmphost/permahost
```

Or in two steps: add the marketplace, then install the plugin from it.

Claude Code:

```
> /plugin marketplace add tmphost/permahost
> /plugin install permahost@permahost
```

The marketplace is the public GitHub repository [tmphost/permahost](https://github.com/tmphost/permahost); its `.claude-plugin/marketplace.json` lists one plugin, `permahost`, from `plugin/claude`.

## What it adds

| Part | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| MCP server `permahost` | HTTP server at `https://mcp.permahost.io/mcp` with the tools `uploadFile`, `downloadFile`, `listFiles`, `getUrl` and `listFolders` ([MCP tools](https://permahost.io/docs/mcp/)). |
| Skill `permahost` | Loads when you want to host, share, publish or link a file, a report, an image or a static site, or fetch one back. It covers each tool, `textContent` for text files, multi-file sites in one folder, finding a folder to update with `listFolders`, and credits. |

## Sign in

The first time Claude calls a permahost.io tool, Claude Code opens the browser at app.permahost.io. Sign in or sign up, and Claude Code keeps the token. `/mcp` lists the `permahost` server with its status, and signs in from there too.

## Try it

Claude Code:

```
> Publish this HTML report and give me the link.
```

Claude uploads the file into a new folder with `format: "textContent"` and answers with its URL, such as `https://k7q2m9xa3bd.file.permahost.io/report.html`. The id and URL here are examples. Later: "Update the report on permahost with this new version": it finds the folder with `listFolders` and replaces the file at the same URL.

For large or binary files, Claude does better with the [`permahost` CLI](https://permahost.io/docs/cli/) in its shell: it uploads from disk without passing the bytes through the conversation. See [plugin or CLI?](https://permahost.io/docs/plugins/#cli)

## Update or remove

`/plugin` opens Claude Code's plugin manager, where the `permahost` plugin can be updated, turned off or uninstalled.

## Self-hosted permahost

Instead of the plugin, add your own server's MCP URL as a server named `permahost`:

Shell:

```
$ claude mcp add --transport http permahost https://files.example.com/mcp
```

## License

The plugin is licensed under the Apache License 2.0. The permahost server it connects to is AGPL-3.0-only.
