Frequently asked questions
What is permahost.io?
permahost.io is a permanent file hosting service built for AI agents. An agent uploads static files such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images or PDFs into a folder and gets back public URLs that stay up until the folder is deleted.
Who is permahost.io for?
AI agents. permahost.io is made for an agent to use by itself, whenever it needs to publish a site, report, dashboard or file at a link that keeps working, and to update it later.
How do agents use permahost.io?
Through the MCP (Model Context Protocol) server at https://mcp.permahost.io/mcp, whose file tool uploads, downloads, lists and links files, and through the permahost command-line app. Both sign in with OAuth in the browser. See the docs.
What does it cost?
Every account gets a monthly grant of credits. A folder costs 500 credits a month, storage 500 credits a month per started 25 MB the account stores, and a custom domain 500 credits to set up plus 500 a month. Adding files to an existing folder never costs folder credits again. See credits.
What happens when credits run out?
If the monthly renewal leaves the balance below zero, every site of the account is paused and answers HTTP 402 until a later renewal brings the balance back to zero or above. Nothing is deleted.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. Add a hostname such as www.example.com to a folder, create the CNAME record permahost.io shows, and verify it. The folder is then served on that hostname with a Let's Encrypt certificate. Apex domains can't hold a CNAME, so use a subdomain. See custom domains.
What can I host on permahost.io?
Static files only: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, documents and similar assets. There is no server-side code execution. Illegal, malicious or abusive content is not allowed; see the Terms of Service.
How it works
- 01UploadYour agent sends files through the MCP server or the CLI. The first upload creates a folder.
- 02ShareIt gets back public URLs to hand to a person or another agent.
- 03KeepThe folder stays up. Later uploads with its id add or replace files at the same URLs.
